Phi 208 - Domestic violence is generally between men and women in various situations, although there are many victims, including children who witness it, it can even be between family members and in same sex relationships, in most cases though; it is the woman who ends up hurt and sometimes even killed. Domestic violence is a social problem that is difficult to understand because there are so many different things that contribute to this social problem, and this can even be more difficult to change because there is not just one known cause. The dynamics of domestic violence is usually revolving around control. When looking at the statistics we see that there are many contributing factors like exposure to violence as a child, and children who bully are red flags for future abusers, but there are no clear answers that define what causes it. There are many things to consider when decreasing the overall numbers, one thing is taking a closer look at the statistics to increase our awareness and also things we can do as families, parents and communities, like education, more social programs and increasing awareness with a variety of tools, in hopes of going after the issue more in the terms of fixing the possible causes instead of trying to fix it after it happens.

There are no cut and dry reasons why domestic violence is such a large social problem, there are many things to consider, for one the dynamics of domestic violence is usually because the perpetrator is in need of power and control. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime (2008), they note that “the relationship necessary for a charge of domestic assault or abuse generally includes a spouse, former spouse, persons currently residing together or those that have within the previous year, or persons who share a common child.”
